What We Do

Our Motivating Question

How can we have effective interventions in nutrition if the communities that we wish to impact see nutrition as a luxury?

Wooden Spoon
As disparities in diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) continue to deepen across the world, a fundamental question in public health is how to improve dietary behaviors in under-resourced communities?

The Diet Disparities Lab focuses on this question and has contributed to:

Diversity and Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Understanding the systemic inequities that drive diet disparities and nutrition insecurity across the Americas

Community-Academic Partnership

Documenting how to engage under-resourced communities to advocate for nutrition equity

Transparency and Communication

Producing evidence to inform policy solutions and interventions that reflect and address the needs of the communities they are designed to impact

Inviting Communities to the Table

We use participatory research approaches to understand community priorities, leverage partnerships and increase access to healthier eating. Our diverse and dedicated team identifies strategies, uses systems science and mixed methods to highlight where policies and programs are misaligned regarding nutrition.
